TEAR DOWN THAT WALL!

Mr. Chancellor, tear down that wall!

Not the effect Regan had, but all the same. Finally, and after almost a year and a half, our university has seen big change. Big enough to say Obama himself swept by and propagated a presidential campaign for change. I witnessed laughter, dance, and pure joy.

Who would've wondered an event like "Global Day" would implode our university with convivial students. Students that have been in hiding for last 13 years. People from all colors, races, and nations raced to proudly present their nations culture, and tradition. In garments that stole the heart, and dances of ravaging euphoria that filled the epic night with hopes of a better future. It was perfect. Pure perfection as students visited learned, and sought out new friendships from neighboring countries.

From the fierce and "Oh-so-coordinated Dabkah" of the Levanties. To the high pitched voices of our Sudanese sisters, overflowing the powerful mellowed tunes of African decent. Passion was present. It was like you let a small whole in a gas tank. It whistled, it sang, it smelled great. Ignoring that last part about how it smelled, it was a day to be remembered.

Food, as you all know to be as my favorite pastime, was generously present. I tried everything from the heavily sugar coated Sudanese "Ma'amul" to Yemani "Mestika Gum". I even had a whip of Algerian "Kuskuseh". Needless to say my stomach experienced what you may call "Culture Shock". Easily solved by a visit to the men's room, but you really didn't need to know that.

Well now it's Sunday. Back to what college is really about. Sleeping in clas... I mean reality. Midterms, quizzes, and a bunch of other stuff I'm trying to forget. There was something different that hot sunny morning. Almost like someone left a window open, and a draft of happiness kept lurching in. I liked it. And it seemed that everyone else noticed it to. Everyone except those who had a "Circuits II" midterm, really hard to cheer up if i might add.

All I can say is our university isn't that bad. Ironically coming from the pessimistic me, i think it has an enormous potential to be active and yes, i can say it..almost...there.... "FUN". If it only were to embody "university life" as a strategy instead of the political "no-no" it is currently labeled as, stereotypes would change. For the first and hopefully not the last time, i can proudly say U.O.S. Rocked!!!

This posts awesome song that you will love because i said so is "Snuff" by Slipknot.
